I will use this thread to keep everyone up to date on my truck. Last night I mounted the 1/4 ellip rear springs and the front axle. I will get a pic up someday. Here is an old pic.

the engine is in the shop getting re-bored so it doesn't smoke any more!!!
I know the engine is the shop getting rebored but with Scotts engine experiences I will bet that he will still only have three cylinders that work. Who thinks Scott should junk the three cylinder engine and get something better?
Mabey I should put a 400M in there huh?
I never said that the 400 is any good. I have always said the engine sucks and was one of Fords worst engines designed. It has a few good points such as alot of torque but I have three fans on the bronco and it still runs hot.
Don't forget heavy!!!!
You could drop in a B3.9 I4 Cummins diesel. With a mild turbo, they can create up to about 450-475 lbs ft.
yeah but you'll still be driving an oil burner down the trail... fawking loud, stinking black smoke, and they need to spool up... not much fun in mud, snow, or on the road.
scott, where is your shop at?
That's not entirely true.Quote:

Not all diesels have to "spool up." Only an engine equipped with an exhaust driven turbine will offer any turbo lag. Granted, diesels aren't the hottest deal going for mud racing or snow bombing, but when viewed in a rock crawling setting, diesels sure do make a lot of sense.
If you're spending a lot of time driving on the street, then turbo lag is a valid concern when thinking of engine choices. But for the low end torque that slow speed rock crawling uses, you're spending a lot of time in the 1000-1500 rpm range. A good diesel, turbo or non-turbo, will devlop all the the power you need in that power band without any assistance from the turbo, and thus eliminating turbo lag as a concern.
Highly biased,
Toyota's suck
Don't ever let your roomate use your computer without you around...
In other news, the shop is in Katy TX and here is another pic
scott what are those axles in front of the Nissan?
There are Toyota's on the truck and D60's passenger and driver drop on the ground there.
I also decided last night that I am switching to coils in the rear. I think it will be simpler than the 1/4 ellip springs.
Update: 5-17-02
I am now using XJ coils in the rear. Johnny joints all the way around in the rear. My pinion angles suck, working on the rear links now. I just hope that it won't be too big. Engine is still in the shop.

dropped engine in last night!
Time for the body.
Looking good! When do you think it will be done?
I am hoping to get it done over Christmas, but I plan on having it ready March of next year.
I have a couple of questions... but first... NICE JOHNNY JOINTS>>> those things are badass...
aren't you trying to save weight here? why did you opt for square tubing if you've bought a badass bender? tube it 'mano!!!!
Also... you're going to keep yota axles? I thought this thing was going to be another big heavy rig, not a cool little buggy...
I am going lightweight.
I have upgraded the Toy axles to a Landcruiser HP front and a V6 rear. The front axle is 63" wide and the rear is 61"
Wheelbase is 106"
From what I see in Competition, the guys with 38"+ tires NEVER win. I think that 37" tires took at least the first three spots on the score sheet.
I made a frame instead of going tubular because I like the ease of having a frame for building a truck and real bumpers. I like to yank etc... I need a real frame. Also, the frame is sealed and will be used as my air tank meaning that I will not need a seperate tank.
The body will be minimal, I will not even do the body work on the doors, and I will build some tubular ones with a sheet metal skin. I just want to get the look of the Patrol out of it when I get through.
It will have an exo-cage, but it will be built into the body. ie: the sheet metal will be welded to the cage. (so far I think)
Any more progress on the Toy-Schubring Patrol?
Who needs torque from the motor when you have a 200:1 crawl ratio?!? I'd stay light weight since you already have the marlins. Good call.
I am working on mounting the body.
I want a minimum of sheet metal but still want the look of the patrol. I am trying to figure out a way to mount the rear part of the body to the cage and building the cage first. Everything is coming together all at once and it is making it very hard.
Can't mount the body until I get the height right, can't get the height right with out weight, can't cut the fenders/ make integrated rockerpanels/ cage without expected ride height, etc... etc... It is just sitting too high right now and I am not sure if it will settle out and where it would if it did.
end of ramble
camera broke,
body is mounted, it sat too high, reworking suspension to drop is down a little.
will get a new pic up as soon as I can

scott, are those the same front springs you had on the truck or are they something else?
the same Alcans as before
damn your junk is uglier than mine... :D
Who's frame is that right next to yours? Someone else building up a rig?
Nutz
yeah, the guy who's shop I am using is buliding a CJ-5
building a cj5 huh? well at least that shop isn't half bad ;)
there was a thread on either POR or JU about patrol's saying how they were very overpowered from the factory compared to Jeeps and FJ's and stuff like that during the time. think that 22re will balance out the battle :D
The Patrol had a HUGE 125 hp straight six in it when I got it. It weighed a ton, doesn't have fuel injection, and has NO replacement parts. That thing was way bigger than my Cummins. Of coure the 22RE will balance it out, it will work great.
Got the front suspension re-done last night (4" drop) - will start dropping the rear tonight
got the rocker panels done yesterday and will be starting on the cage next week when I am in town.
Still no camera for pics...
