There is a guy on pirate that is selling a 4.3 with everything for $300. Has 70,000 miles on it. Sound like a deal??? Fred, Jimmy??? This is what i want to run in my buggy and I have no idea what all this costs at a bone yard!

That's probably not a bad price, but I'm not a big 4.3L fan. I figure for the trouble you go through to wire, mount, and bolt up a transmission to it, you've done all the work to run a smallblock but you're getting screwed out of two cylinders worth of torque and hp. I'd just run a 350 with aluminum heads doug.
I want to keep it relatively small....I figure it's a couple 5-6 inches shorter?
5-6 inches isn't **** in an engine bay. That difference is like running a mechanical clutch fan on a 4.3L or running a set of electrical fans on a smallblock. Even if you're worried about front end visibility, you can set the motor back a couple inches. Not a big deal when building something from scratch.
I'm planning on having a long drive train. Either a doubler or dual trannies, so every inch counts. I think i'm going to just go with the 4.3 This one is cheap and they are more plentiful!
more plentiful than a small block Chevy?
Astro's, S10's, s10 blazers, full size trucks, vans, safari's etc.... I'm talking TBI 4.3 vs. TBI 5.7 I can get 4.3 TBI's all day long around here at junk yards but not 5.7's
The 4.3 is a good engine. Thats why they used them for 20 years at least. They can get pretty good torque numbers with the right bolt on doodads and will run cooler, quieter, and save you some gas which is probably not what your worried about. Is that a complete engine with FI and accessories? Even if not you can find every thing you need for one easy.
Only thing lacking is the 02 sensor which i'm not worried about at all
Is it here in tx or in BFE Oregon or California
That prob could cost another hundred bucks to ship from all the way out there.
Oh yeah it's in houston...probably pick it up this weekend
Hey jerry I'm going to beaumont on Friday to meet blair and her friends at karls. I think we are going to hit the "town", you and sammy interested?
i'm supposed to go deep sea fishing this weekend...i'll see what sammy wants to do
They'rrrrrreeee Great! Mine cost me 600 with the harness...
I think a small block would be the way to go, but I also think you are gay anyway, so gay it up fawker, run the 6...:flipoff2: I think that sounds like a fair deal as long as it is all kosher, might be able to find it cheaper at the yard, but not too much more, and this way you might know the history, and you won't have to pull it from the yard...I will make fun of you however, everytime I see you and your buggy I will say things like, "Oh look it's so cute, it almost looks like a v-8", and "Neat Stuart's mom's minivan had the same motor", and let's not forget, "Doug's motor it's missing a couple, much like his penis" :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :D
I had one more piece of advice. Why not buy the motor after you have gotten all the other pieces you need. Are you starting on this buggy tomorrow? You don't want a motor sitting around for 2+ years before you put it in unless you are planning on going through it anyway, right DavidO?:)
jimmy dont forget about
"Hey doug what did you have for breakfast.....shoulda had a v8"
I kill myself
the engine in question is not my "heavy ass v-8" it is a 5.7 tbi vs. a 4.3 tbi. The weight difference there is not much. I would love to have a 5.7 TPI in my truck, I think it would be way cheaper to rebuild and make power out of. If I could find a 'vette 5.7 with aluminium heads, it would probably be lighter than a 4.3 or just the same weight. I agree that the IH V-8 is not a hot rod, and it is expensive to rebuild, but I haven't ran into one yet that needed a rebuild... ;)Quote:

Look assclowns, I'm not looking for a high powered engine. I want simple, reliable, and any parts store has the parts readily available if needed. **** I could also put a LS-1 in it, 345 HP, aluminum block only weighs 390 pounds. That would be ****in sweet huh? Find me onen for $500 and i'll do it. Also, there is a guy selling a Grand National engine in new jersey for $500 with the turbo. Now that would be sweet!!! And as far as engines sitting, look at how well my motorcycle is running! God ya'll are dumb.
P.S. Jimmy stuarts mom had the ****ty ford aerostar engine in it and ask Jerry what minivan and engine won the great minivan race of 1997. Thats right a 1987 GMC Safari with a 4.3, it would power brake all day long. That minivan is still in the family and my brother dreams of putting a 5.7 in it!! Now thats gay.
RODEO EDITION GMC SAFARI REPRESENT!!!!!!!:flipoff2:
By the way doug, I agree with you on the 4.3, i want to go all toyota drivetrain (except axles) when i build mine for the same reason, light and bulletproof.
Dammit i forgot about that, our minivan pulled trailers around the Astrodome during the rodeo. Maybe it even pulled the trailer for the singers.... Damn our minivan is cool!
Lets see it was an '87, sorry is an '87 she is still alive and kicking, so maybe it pulled around the oakridge boys or dolly parton they were pretty popular back then. Elvira!!!Quote:

Damn im gonna be singing that all day
anyway back on topic, 4.3 - good idea
on a side note can you mate an SM465 to a yota engine and toyota transfercases?
don't know, i'm sure there is an adaptor though....
Why not have all of that? It's not like a 350 is hard to get parts for either.Quote:

A B3.9 Cummins is what you really need.:D
Yeah but 4.3's are much easier to find and are cheaper!Quote:

not by much
How much can you find me an LS-1 for??? Now that would be sweet!!! How about an LT-1???
LS, LT whats the difference?
LS1=aluminum block & heads
LT1=iron block & aluminum heads
thanks, it was supposed to be a joke.. didnt fred get all upset b/c someone didnt know the difference between the two?
one is tpi, the other is tbiQuote:

Same here, light wieght and strong is the way to go. Thats why my next rig will probally be sporting either an all toyota or suzuki drivetrain, or a combination there of, and be sitting on on a set of d44's (with 4 wheel steering :D)Quote:

As for the SM465 to a yota engine and tcase, yeah it exists as Ugly noted, but why? Yota dual cases and gear sets are getting so cheap that you could gear it to the moon for a lot less than what the SM465 setup would cost you. And from what I've heard the SM465 really has to big of gaps between gears, the toy engine seems to prefer syncronized trannys.
There you go, but get that new supercharged sea doo motor, I think its 185+ :DQuote:

'88-'93(?) Ford SHO motor
3.0 L, all alum. V6 by Yama-ho
up to 300hp with bolt-ons
Advanced Adapters can't mate it up to anything, tho and they come with front drive trannys :(
