Las Cruses was a fun trip. The drive wasnt to bad the accomadations were good and we had good weather. The trails were very challenging and some obstacles required the use of a winch. More rocks and Less Trees
Hot Springs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The old man at Barnwell said it was a good place. Superlift also gave him his lift for that J20 he drives around so he might be a bit biased. Hot springs had a write up in Offroad mag it looks like a fun place.
I'm up for Cruces again, I think I'll have the next round of Scout mods done by then. I would love to go back to Farmington, but the competion will prevent any chance of wheeling.
I think we should spend two days in Cruses wheeling the trails that we didn't finish last time (Tabasco Twister etc...) and then drive to Farmington for a day in the playground, and then drive to the Avalanche Ranch for a final day of wheeling

-Sounds good in theory Scott, but I see break downs making all that moving not feasable for a large group(if enough go).
-Anyone know anymore about Indiana?
-I am all for going to Las Cruces again...I would like to get some more wheeling in there.
no one wants to go to the hammers or rubicon? i've talked about it w/ a friend who lived in california for a while, we're not sure if we want to drive that far yet, but maybe, if not there, then probably cruces or moab
if you try to drive to the rubicon it'll take you 3 days to get there and 3 days to get back...respectively, that doesnt leave much time for wheeling. you wanna spend 6 of your 10 break days on the highway?
1020
true, if we do go, we'll drive during the night also, it would be a helleva trip, but maybe worth it, this will be my last spring break trip hopefully
My plan:
leave 7:00am sat morning March 9th
Arrive Cruses 13 hours later - set up camp and sleep
Sunday the 10th. - Wheel Cruses
Monday the 11 - Wheel Cruses
Tuesday the 12th pack up, drive to Farmington - 7 hour drive
Wednesday the 13th - wheel Farmington
Thursday the 14th - Wheel Farmington
Friday the 15th - Wheel Avalanche - 1 hour drive away - day trip
Sat the 16th drive home.
Hows that sound?
Any suggestions, additions, subtractions, ect....
I like that idea, but when you go to Farmington, I was thinking Taos sounded pretty ggod, maybe wheel one more day at cruces and then hit the slopes for a day or two, anyone like skiing? Off-roading and skiing in one week, that would be cool, and by cool I mean totally sweet...
I think farmington is a little too far. That's at least 3 full days of highway with a really long trip (~16hr in a good vehicle, 24 hr in off road rig) back home. Do you think we could wheel just cruces for a week. I've never been to the place so I don't know how big it is or anything. I think I'd like hot springs too. I've never been there either but its closer.
it can be done in a loooong day of driving from CS. I like the schedual so far. I might favor 3 days somewhere wheeling and two days in Pagosa/Wolf creek for skiing. It is then only a 14 to 16 hour drive home from CO.
Wolf Creek
here is a map. not too far from Farmington either. I would consider three days of runs there also.

assuming Nikki can even go, we'd only be able to wheel a couple of days, she has to work spring break, but hopefully not all, so we would be up for a couple days in cruces, and headin back here
Ski Apache in Ruidoso is really close to las cruces. It's a fairly big place with plenty of nice black trails. Greens and blues too if you're scared.
My plan:
leave 9:00am (7:00am is too early :)) sat morning March 9th
Arrive Cruses 13 hours later - set up camp and sleep
Sunday the 10th. - Wheel Cruses
Monday the 11 - Wheel Cruses
Tuesday the 12th- wheel cruces morning/afternoon, pack up an drive to ruidoso, 2.5 hours
Wednesday the 13th - ski ruidoso
Thursday the 14th - ski ruidoso
Friday the 15th - drive to Plano
Sat the 16th- fix scout and explain to dad where all the dents/breakage came from
Sun- drive back to college station
I found a pretty cool sounding camp ground in ruidoso, here is the link
fat tall man campsite, I'm not real good at spanish, it may mean something else... It could be like the one on national lampoon's vacation, but it sounds good.
I think Scott's plan is more driving/wheeling than I am up for, but it would be very cool. I would be willing to substitute taos, but I'm not driving all the way to CO, if I went that far, I would skip the cruces part and spend the whole week skiing...Has anyone ever skiied Ruidoso? I've been to Taos but it has been a few years.
The Smokey the Bear historical state park is also near ruidoso, we could see the smokey the bear museum, I'm in...
Of the places that I have been, Taos was by far the best value. Nothing was too expensive in town, the slopes are a short drive away, hamburgers on the mountain don't cost $15, and the runs are awesome!! I would definitely be up for anything involving Taos.
No Ruidoso for me. Too much like skiing in VT with my emploies:D
I am personaly looking for blues and blacks and a bigger mountain. It all depends on how long you guys want to go, the experiance level, and what type of trail you want to attack.
That place is good for a day trip or and afternoon. But not big enough for any more. Here some maps to look at.

other ski maps
Wolf Creek is only a couple hours up the road from Taos. Wolf Creek has by far better snow, but not the accomidations that Taos has. Wolf Creek is also a bit less expensive.
Riodoso will be sketchy in terms of snow at spring break. I would not count on it that late in the season.
Here is a more current map of Wolf Creek. They have continued the development of the back country glade skiing area (left side of map).

New suggestion - Same as Jimmy's
Leave sat morning.
arrive alive in Cruses 12 hours later, set up camp etc...
Wheel Cruses Sunday
Wheel Cruses Monday
Wheel Cruses Tuesday or move on to somplace else.
I think that Tuesday or Wednesday we could all split off and do our seperate things, some go skiing in one place, some to others, some do more wheeling in Farmington / Avalanche etc...
That's it kids, get the trucks ready - don't forget the fixin on the tow rigs.
Just another thought. We could wheel cruces for a few days and then spend a day at the frio or nueces river by uvalde on the way back.
i think its gonna take a little bit longer than 12 hours. well for me it is i am gonna pull the bronco and dougy's blazer.
who's still in? We are all starting in Cruses - I think I am getting a hotel with priority points
me:D
I'm in.....
im going, i have to find somebody to pull me up there so if anyone has a truck and trailor let me know
lissa
i'm in and I will probably trailer the bizach. :flipoff2:
One more suggestion - just a thought for those with significant others:
leave saturday morning
arrive cruses 12 hrs later, settle in.
wheel Cruses sunday
wheel cruses monday
Tuesday - drive to Florence Junction AZ, 7 hr drive, wheel afternoon?
Wednesday - wheel trails at Florence junction / N. Phoenix
Thursday - wheel Florence Junction in am, drive to Sedona in pm (3 hr drive)
Friday - relax in Sedona
Saturday & Sunday drive home, 21 hrs
just thought I would throw that out there, there are some SWEET trails in AZ.
I plan on bringing a welder, torch, grinder, steel, and plenty of spare parts - ain't nothing gona screw up my week of wheeling...
I will have:
spare axles
spare dirveshafts
spare third members
misc nuts and bolts
DUCK tape
bailing wire
it's bad ass you'll be prepared... no one else will be... :D
I like the way your post lost its signifgence when a mod erased all my extraneous comments on this thread.

Look at the trail pics - those trails are SWEET
After wheeling in AZ, we can relax in a Sedona resort. The red-rock in Sedona in beautiful
I'm posting this for Ryan Busa. He wants a rider to go with him so he can split the cost of driving there. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks - Doug
I'm up for a little skiing and off-roading!
It looks like I'll probally be riding with busa. The boss said I could have the week off (or maybe thats just her way of saying I'm fired :D) After cruces I say we go to Az. Those are some bad looking trails.
Diesel prices up 20 cents in one week. I'm working all spring break....
i will be in Padre for the Break, anyone else going?
what days?
the first half Stef is coming here, but the second half I will just have class...
yes, that means TAMU-CC sucks big donkey nuts and is the only university that decided to have Spring Break the 17-21:mad:
