    Chevy truck suspension knock?

My superintendent's 06 1500HD 4x4 has this weird bump or knock that you feel through the steering wheel. I swear I have felt it before on other Chevys. It really feels like something is loose in the front end. I haven't crawled under it, but what style steering do these truck have?

Thats pretty vague, but I do not know how else to describe it. It has 60k on it.

id bet money that it is the steering shaft, between the column and the gear. i was just talking to a program manager here who had the same problem on his 1500HD. he said it was common on several chevy models. think he said the shaft was ~$60. the new one fixes the issue and it is a pretty quick swap.

there is a service bulletin on this. the old way was to lube the shaft. I think chevy charged $40 for this. the new way is to undo the shaft and to cycle it back in forth full cycle of the slip part. basically undo the shaft grab a hold of it and jack it off. this is suppose to work the grease around the splines. very common, no big deal. if the truck is gonna do it it does it about every 40k miles.

Or you could just drive it to a dealership and let them take care of it. Cook is right, Chevy will take care of it. Happened on my '03 1500HD, same problem got fixed on the '04 Tahoe I'm driving now.

Thanks guys, I'll let him know. He bought it has a demo a couple years ago, so I guess it will depend on which dealer he takes it too as to whether they will fix it for free.
