My e4od calls for mercon ATF but I'm not sure what kind to go with. I've used the coastal brand dexmerc from the parts stores because it's cheap but I wanted to see if there's really any difference between it and any name brand fluid. I don't want to go with a synthetic fluid.

Because I'm not sure if I want to stick with the e4od for long enough to make synthetic fluid worth it. Royal purple is close to 3 times the cost of conventional mercon.

Ed, I texted you for price on amsoil.

Text replied. If you aren't going to keep it that long, then the cheap stuff might be better.

    Interesting upgrade...

I'm not sure the added clamping surface is worth the price of replacing pads before they are spent but if you have to change out the brake pads anyway then it might be worthwhile.

A quick rockauto search revealed that the caprice pads are $10 more than the k-20 pads for the same brand, semi-metallic. Interesting....

Ya me too. Next time I change pads I will look into it. Prob. won't be for a while though. It doesn't see many road miles and so not much pad wear.

Milky oil in 97 Z71 with 5.7 vortec. What's the most common cause? Think I've heard something about bad intake manifold?

Replace the intake manifold gaskets and douche the block with mineral spirits when you have the intake off. Dexcool isn't the problem.

electrolysis iirc and it often eats the rear of the intake manifold water passages, you could get a leak down tester, pump it up and see where it leaks. its either a head gasket or the manifold. i have a pump if you wana borrow it
