from my understanding those are d-60 flanges on the 9" housing. The axle i'm buying is cheaper and I need something in a week otherwise I would have just built mine from scratch. That ballistic one is badass but I wonder how long you would have to wait for it.

WTF are you trying to show in that picture? Is it a semifloating 60 or something? Looks like it has 8 lugs?

its a fullfloating 9" and yes it does have 8 lugs. I has asking if the flange is where the break caliper bracket mounts with those 4 holes. I'm 99% sure they do, but i got confused about what sharpe was talking about.

edit: to be more specific how is it full floating? Is only the hub on the spindle?

So why did this guy not put brakes on it in the first place? By the looks of the picture he's been wheeling it without brakes? It sounds like that axle has some good parts, but it's not going to do you any good if this guy isn't running brakes because the spindle is welded on crooked. I'd examine it thoroughly before you hand over the dough.

I think this is what you're looking at.

I asked him about how he did this, and he told me that he works at a machine shop in lufkin and he did the work there. He cut the ends off a d-60, put them on a lathe and turn down the inner tube so only the ends were remaining. Put the 9" in a mill and cut the ends off to ensure they were square. Put the ends back in the lathe and turned them down to press fit them inside the 9" housing. Then did the carrier bearing pucks and rod jig to ensure everthing was straight before putting it on a rotoweld to weld it up.

sounds like he did everything right, but you are correct I will definently be taking a very close look at it.

edit: Travis just asked, "so where do the brakes go?" and then you permanently deleted it
