Easier to put the rtv on a gasket and then put the gasket in place rather than reach your hand into the engine bay where sometimes you can't even see what you're reaching for. Also in some cases, for alignment of the part. The gasket also helps to keep you from squishing all the rtv right away while you are getting everything in place.

in my experience people over use rtv and use it improperly. it def has its place and I use it in my shop when necessary. use whatever makes you happy and your comfortable with. i use a gasket adhesive to hold the gasket in place if necessary and try to only use rtv at corners and where one gasket meets another assuming the surface is true and clean and i can find a gasket for the application. to each his own.

There are probably more inconsistencies on the parts store water pump than on the block......that being said, smear a thin layer on both sides of the gasket.

I like the permatex gasket sealant but have used regular rtv plenty if times with no problems.

What's the smallest gauge wire that would be acceptable to use on a m6000 winch that's 20 feet from the batteries?

Isn't there a million internet calculators for that? I would suggest doing that, then go by the biggest welding leads you can afford.

Well I couldn't find what the amp draw was on a m6000 when I posted. I think I'm going to go with 1/0.

Use welding cable. Finer stranded and tougher jacket than ****ty parts store battery cable.

I need to replace this propane liquid level gauge on my tractor, and it's now or never since the tank is completely empty and the fill valves are taken out. I should just be able to buy a gauge like this at a propane place like ferrellgas right?

Yes. Some places have the parts, but some want to install it for you though.

    475 amps at max draw.

    http://www.genuinedealz.com/voltage-drop-calculator

4/0 at 20' still only gets you to an 8% volt drop (~1 volt) with that many amps. I may be doing something wrong though.

Its for trailer winch hookup so I'll probably just keep a charged 12v battery with me before I buy gigantic cable for it
