It had been overheating a lil. Drove it to college station, always having to put another quart of oil in when I stopped for gas [which, on a 4 hr drive... is twice]... did the same thing on the way to dallas. I watched it pretty close, keepin oil in it, letting it cool off some. Radiator steamed a lil... it was not good. Finally got it home, and that night, after coming home from hanging out with the boys... I looked outside to see a light coming from underneath the jeep [thank you barking puppy!]
Anyway, from what I can tell it looks like there was a backspray in the air filter breather, another unidentified oil leak, and [the spark] a loose sensor behind the air filter, which I believe to be the pressure, or temp sensor... anyway, it did melt the carb, and the plastic POS valve cover, a bunch of hoses... I had to leave it in dallas under the care of my step-pops.... who I would trust with old sports cars, and hot rods... but, I dunno about this... SO, thats why I'm in the pink corolla...

What is the easiest way to tell the difference in a T4 and T176. The jeep I am pickin up says T4/T176 in the ad, so I figure it will be a 4. If it is, will it be worth it in the long run to get a 176. I plan on wheelin this thing at clayton this year so there are now mods in the future for it yet. Only thing that has to be done is to get the shifter plate bolted back on (bolts were broke off? I wonder about this part.) and put some taillights in it for night wheelin.

t4 has a cover on top and a seperate shifter in the back, t176 has it on the top cover.

T176 has a throw like a big transmission, T4 has it like a small one. My T4 made it about 200K before I swapped it out with it still working. It was swaped in in 83 after the 3rd dead sr4. SR4 was used only in 81. I wouldn't say I used it really hard, but I did break the d44 a few times while I had it, but that was back when I used 258s too. I also saw that add and wondered what they meant by t4/t176.

no, not at all, but i did get bit by the "impulse buy bug" and this jeep is ready to wheel barring a few minor glitches.

258 bored to 282

My T4 made it about 200K before I swapped it out with it still working.

this is the first good thing i have heard about the t4, i will be running either one till i grenade em anyways
