    Is this bad?

this is a pic looking down at the end of the crankshaft, wher the harmonic balancer slides over it. It looks slightly bent. THe left side looks to be closer to the block then the right side. WHen the engine was running, the balancer was not turning in a very perfect circle and I was hoping that it was a bad balancer, but maybe not. The pic makes it look a little better than it is. If it is bent, what internal damage would have been done? And how in the hell did I bend a crank?

    overtighten the belts?

The cranks were actually snapping on Nissan's vg30e v6 because of overtightened belts so they had to make them thicker.

It's really hard to know what kind of internal damage could be there until you pull the pan and maybe a couple of the main bearing caps to look at the journals. I don't see how you could have bent that end of the crank. Has that engine been rebuilt or even just pulled out?
