Yeah, that vice should have been thrown back. I tried all sorts of crap to free the two halves. i tried penetrating oil for for weeks, I submerged it in old car oil for a couple of months, I even tried the hi-lift. I finally got angry and brought it up to work where the giant press is.

I strapped one side to the base and one side the the cylinder. I then got on the side of the press so the I beam would block whatever happened. I slowly retracted the ram and it started to slide apart. At the very end it took some more pulling and then came apart and hit the side of the building. I'm glad I was on the side of the press.

hey if you would have held onto it a couple months you probably could have sold it back to them for more than $.35/lb!

I have a half ass workbench to begin with and after seeing how hard Jimmy had to bang on the CTMs last time, I am beginning to rethink this. I may go ahead and buy a light or medium vice and then secure it with a 2x4 under, but I am betting any hard cranking would move the whole bench. Anyone have a hitch or bed mounted one for Saturday?

I have a loose one that doesn't swivel. It could be mounted to a hitch. I would prefer to bolt it so I can put it on a bench in the future.

If you buy one, make sure it's big enough to fit someone's noggin in there, as you never know when that feature may come in handy.

I'd trade out one of those grinding wheels with a wire brush, good for taking off rust...and skin.
