    GM 6.0 troubles?

    My sister's truck broke down today and I ended up hauling it back to conroe from navasota. I'm thinking that the fuel pump went out. She was cruising at highway speed when it began to stumble then die. I got it started but it was idling way rough. Managed to get it partially on the trailer before it died completely. Got it the rest of the way on the trailer after a good samaritan offered to give it a push with his ranchhand equipped dodge.

    It's an 02 GMC 3/4 ton with the 6.0, 115k miles. I had the fuel pump go out on my old truck right around 110k. From what I can tell this seems to be the same diagnosis. When I got it running it idled fairly low at 600ish, got nothing when I depressed the accelerator. Almost sounded like a knock with how rough it ran but still had oil pressure. I checked the oil since the message center displayed an oil code and she mentioned that it was a couple thousand miles over the scheduled change but it was all good.

    So I'm assuming that the fuel pump is the culprit. Any other thoughts as to if it might be a failed sensor or worse? I'm planning on borrowing a code scanner from O'reilly's just to make sure.

    fuel pump defantly, if ya have low fuel psi, the engine will not rev up. and the knock is because its running so lean from no fuel

    Not the fuel pump. Electric pumps just die. I would guess crank position sensor. Is the check engine light on when it's running?

    we have had one thst just didn't die. it was almost like it would get hot and then power would just drop. we able to get it restarted and move a little bit and then it went completely dead just like he described.

    On the way to Las Cruces, my pump started losing impeller blades... Weirdest symptoms. Not saying that's the problem.

    I 2nd david O just for starters. They are cheap, might as well.

    ? I have beat on many a Chevy fuel tank to get the pump running enough to get home.

    Its a Chevy, can you hear the pump priming? They are pretty loud.

    I knew I should have just stayed out of the thread. You always hear these random ass stories of people managing to limp an electric fuel pump after wigglyling or banging, or praying to the Gods of Fuel Delivery, but in all the years of road trips and driving experimental fuel injected ****boxes, I have NEVER had an electric pump give an intermittent failure. Just instant death with no warning whatsoever. I'm interested to see if Robby finds any trouble codes or not.

    Rarely does it seem that anything a Brune breaks doesn't go down in a blaze of glory. I mean, honestly, how many things have you guys broken/wrecked/demolished that doesn't have a good story behind it?

    Just throwing this out there...



    Did you try putting more gas in it?










    Seriously though, I don't know how many people I've seen (including myself) start tearing into a vehicle just to find it was out of gas due to a lying fuel gauge or bad sender. Other than that I second Fred's notion that 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999% of the time electric fuel pumps just plain die.

    There is a shrader valve on one of the fuel rails. Turn the key to prime the system, then poke the valve. If it sprays gas in your face, your pump might still be good.

    In Clayton when my alternator went out the electronic pedal wouldnt work anymore.

    Went ahead and picked up a fuel pump when I rented a code scanner today as I was certain it was the culprit (turn the key on, no f.p. noise). Scanned it, no codes.

    Swapped out the pump late tonight and all is good again. The manufacturer updated the wiring connector since the last one I did so there's an additional step to the install. Not like the jeep electrical but I still tried to do a nice job.

    Took some pics due to boredom and as a reminder next time she gives me **** for something.



    Snazzy wiring job...
