    Cluster****.

That is a good way to describe how this is going. After getting the manifold off with an impact, I discovered that there were bolts missing on the manifold.

Two to be exact. Upon further examination I found *PART* of each bolt... Broken off inside the head. There was literally no gasket at all in between the head and the manifold.

So the previous owner had a shop do it, and they obviously ****ed up real bad... and didn't tell him.

So I'm pulling the head and going to have a machine shop re-thread them for me since the drill/tap method isn't/can't work. No one can get to it until Monday, so I will be driven back to CS, and have no vehicle for a week. Fun

Having clearance issue on one so I can't drill it out because of the firewall, the other I got no were.

I'll try again once I have the head out.

In my stupidity, while pulling the rods, my hand hit a bracket and I dropped the rod into the motor... Hopefully I can get to it when I pull the head.

If you can't get an entire drill in to the one bolt, get a 90deg. drill or the adapter that lets you 'drill around corners' or what ever they call it. Might cost you a few bucks for the drill or attachment, but should be cheaper than having someone else do it if you want to save some dough.

I pulled the head this morning, Ryan gave me a ride back to CS. (thanks)

I'll be putting it all back together next weekend, so for now I have no vehicle.

*** welding a manifold to the head. More crack-ege.

No road-head, something better. We saw a Ferrari F40!

What my gasket for intake/exhaust manifold looked like:

You kind kind of see where the first bolt is broken off in the head on here.

Head pulled: I kind of have the feeling its had head work done before? The Original owner (no mechanical knowledge whatsoever.)

They are called shandalls, which happen to be one of the greatest inventions of all time.

You cant use vice grips to get them out, they are both recessed into the head. So its not possible to get them out... You are probably seeing the dowel used to line up the gasket/intake manifold.
