Im curious why you thought the cam needed to be broken in, i couldnt find anywhere where it said the motor had never been run in all my pm's and description of vehicle.

This is good information, if we were talking about an LT1..... Here is a picture of a tuned port injection motor (not an LT1), see the peanut, dead give away....

I went through 2 starters in less then a year and then switched to a power master and it's still going after 4 or so years.

My understanding was the motor had been rebuilt and then the guy decided to swap to fuel injection. If you look at the rest of the drivetrain it appears this way. There is no mud/dirt on the engine oil pan, but there is dirt/mud on the tranny oil pan. I could be wrong though. Either way the engine had been setting up for atleast 2 to 3 years, so running it at different RPM's should have thrown oil every where.

I know, but in your post you said "caprice cop car with LT1", which I took as you meaning only the cop car caprices had the LT1, when in fact the normal ones had them too. It was completely off topic either way.

I'm running a proform hi torque ministarter with block hugger headers on the jeep, provides plenty of space between the downtube. The chevelle has long tube hooker comp headers like yours and an o.e. style starter without a heat shield. Haven't had an issues so far.
