That is a myth. The proper way to set up an off road rig is with a numerically lower gear in the front axle. That way the front wheels will spin faster than the rear wheels. This way the front axle "pulls the truck through things. So 3.55's in the front, 4.11's in the rear.....Originally Posted by colman

By the way, a guy actually told me this once... If you take this advice, bring a few extra driveshafts...

Thats true for sand drags and sled pulls, Thats why I'm running a 4.11 rear and 4.09 front.

I just bought my gears from these guys. Best price I could find, and a nice guy.
Isuzu rodeos used thick gear sets in the rear Dana 44s from 93-96. Supposedly if you can find a rodeo with a 4 cylinder in that year range it will have a 4.56 ratio. All I've ever found in a junkyard from that year range was V6 though, which have 4.10 ratio.
