while that may be true, it never hurts to know what kind of real-world (read: non-instantaneous) mileage you are getting, if only so you know how many miles you can expect to get out of a tank.

and you did make claims as to fuel efficiency and break even points, after all

***, that is true. It goes about 300 miles on a tank, about what I need to know. I guess i need to record it next time I fill up.

at some point it doesn't mater, as long as it isn't get 2MPG, I consider it a win. Saying I went from a 90 Chevy with a TBI 350 that at best would hit 60 while towing, I am happy. I a surprised with the quality of these trucks, I can only imagine how much nicer the new body style is.

It is a nice looking truck, and it is your truck, so do what you want with. However I think that lowering a truck you plan to use for work or tow with is just plain "John Cox gay" and there is nothing gayer than that.

by use it for work, I mean drive to a job site every now and again and tow something a few times a year. It will be a trade off, but it is what I like and reason I bought it. Like any modified vehicle, you end up losing the full range of use, but it can be better at some others.

And how is this better than a comparable diesel? Just a cheaper initial cost? To me it looks like the operating cost would be higher and I doubt it will have as good of resale.

lower purchase price and lower maintenance cost. you pay more in fuel for gas motor, that is where the break even cost comes in. A comparable Duramax would have been +5k more. It also comes down to preference, I enjoy the sound and charicteristics of a gas motor, not everone does. I'm not to worried about resale since I bought it used, the big deprciation hit is gone. Sticker was 40K and I paid 11.7 for it. Not much it can drop that I realy care about after that.

i cant see the pics, but im sure its a nice truck. it was time for a new one. i think the 8.1 decision is a good one. monetarily its a wash in the end. my dad been driving an 8.1 daily for a few years. i think your logic ended there though. a dually to "drive to a job site every now and again and tow something a few times a year" is dumb and getting a 2wd when you are a landscaper and could have gotten a 4wd for a few extra payments is dumb. however, its obvious that you just wanted a slammed dually doink. that is your preferance, as bad as it may be. it could only be better if you got a diesel so you could robbie it out and blow smoke.

I'm still not sold on the lower maintenance cost, but I do agree you should get what you want.

There is a guy on dieselplace who has a super low dually w/ a gooseneck still in the bed. I will try to find a link to that thread later.

I would really have to sit down and do a cost breakdown to see just how much more economical the diesel is. I get ~14-16 driving around town, 10-12 pulling a bumper pull w/ scotti's buggy at about 70, and ~8 now pulling a heavy load (25,000 +). This is with the 07 though, I don't know how an 04 (that doesn't have the VVT)would stack up though. All in all, you bought a nice, clean truck that should have plenty of balls for what you want to do with it. The only time you will regret it is when you are towing with me and I start to walk off on an uphill grade.
