Wheeler Lake is not in the bannana belt, and will be under a decent amount of snow at that time. I would suggest a later date if you want to run more trails.

    read much

It's kind of hard to bash snow when you taco your clutch linkage and have to use your starter to get you moving again...

Look at how little snow is up there. It's been a disappointing winter ... We need more snow!
Just a tidbit from their CoC

The town's name has been pronounced "BEW-na Vista" instead of the Spanish "BWAY-na Vista" ever since it was founded. Its nickname is "BEW-nie." It all came about at a meeting in 1879, when residents and property owners in the area at the convergence of Cottonwood Creek and the Arkansas River held a meeting to create a formal community. They had been told that would help attract a railroad line (eventually it attracted three). Two names were proposed by attendees: Collegiate Peaks, after the mountains in the area, and Buena Vista, which means "beautiful view" in Spanish, certainly an appropriate description.

Alsina Dearheimer, the resident and property owner who suggested the name Buena Vista, certainly knew how the Spanish words were pronounced, her first husband having been a language and music professor. But she insisted that the pronunciation for the town name be Americanized into "BEW-na," borrowing the first syllable of the English word beautiful. Her suggestion carried the day. An interesting anomaly was born, and Dearheimer became known as the Mother of BEW-na Vista. To this day long time residents carry on the tradition and say "Bewna Vista". If it is hard for visitors to swallow, it is suggested they just say "BEWNIE".

I am going to be out of town the weekend of the 12th/13th, but I have Friday the 4th off. Creighton and I were thinking that Holy Cross would be fun that weekend. I could pick people up in Denver Friday morning and drive to the Rangely off road park for some stupid human/truck tricks Friday evening/Saturday, then saturday afternoon we could work our way over to Holy Cross (just west of Vail Pass) and run that Sunday. Creighton and I would then head home and you guys would head over to Frisco, catch Hwy 9 through breckenridge and meet up with 285 in Fairplay, then head on down to Buena Vista.
You guys should really do Holy Cross if you can make the logistics work. It is stupid fun. It is the embodiment of an awesome trail by any definition.
And yes it's been a rough year for snow. That area got like 2 decent storms this year.

I have already been looking into this. Looks like there is an event in Hot Springs that weekend also w/ a meal and raffle.

4-Fri: Head out to Hot Springs (390 miles)
5-Sat: Wheel Superlift ORP (This is the Razorback Land Cruisers open event weekend / $80 for the weekend w/ a meal and raffle Sat. night)
6-Sun: Wheel Superlift ORP (return home for some)
7-Mon: Repairs and Travel Day to Clayton (173 miles 'through the woods')
    8-Tue: Wheel Clayton
    9-Wed: Wheel Clayton
    10-Thr: Wheel Clayton
11-Fri: Travel Day to Gruene (442 Miles) / Party night in Gruene
    12-Sat: Float the River
    13-Sun: Shagass home (150 miles)

EDIT: We could even take a trip up to Disney from Hot Springs
