I've got explorer disk brakes on my 9". All I had to do was redrill the rotors and have the opening for the register opened about 1/8" on a lathe (could be done with a grinder though). And you have to get a spacer for the bearing retainer from currie.

Does the rotor slip on over the wheel flange? Is it a big-bearing 9?

And to re-iterate the problem was solved last night, and I have the larger than normal 12 inch rotors (1/4 inch bigger )

I just pulled an explorer rotor off the shelf and gave measurements then said the rotor wasn't an issue because a 1/2 ton Dodge rotors he already has fit fine with no machine work. why keep trying to make it harder than it needs to be?

Yes, the only thing that needed clearance was the bore of the register of the rotor...about 1/8". Yes big bearing (late model) 9".

The one we pulled at advance needed more the 1/4 inch of clearance and I thought that was too much.

Crieghton - that was a little mean, but at least I said please

Are you talking about at clearance at the register or clearance at the OD of the axle flange?

And these are stock axle shafts? I've got two sets of shafts from different years and they both fit.

Sorry for continuing the derailment, just curious as I've seen a bunch of threads about the 8.8 disk conversion and hadn't seen anyone have this problem.

wait...were you looking at an explorer front rotor or a rear rotor?

Are the explorers not 5x5.5 maybe that was why I didn't get them, I went through too many to remember.
