    Project: Tom

Since it has officially been on its first trip, I guess its time to make a thread for it. Its name is Tom. My first vehicle was a small brown convertible that looked like Jerry, so naturally when I got this his name had to be Tom.

    2006 tj
    6 cylinder
    6 speed

    I got it fairly stock

    Added:
Replaced the ****ty chrome bumpers with these
    RE 3.5 short arm kit
    33x12.5x15 Duratracs

Recap of everything else thus far:
Put the lift on and had the worst death wobble ever. So to fix it we took the whole thing apart and back together several times, put on a new adjustable trac bar, drop pitman arm, steering stabilizer, adjustable lowers and new tires, and after 4 months of messing with it, something or some combination of those things fixed it - Thank God!

Took it to Alto this weekend. First time I wheeled it, had a lot of fun. But I definitely have a long way to go to get it to where I want it to be, and there is a long running list of plans for this thing.

But I bent a rear driveshaft this weekend So that the first thing I have to get now.

are you sure its a drive shaft and not just mud in the back of the rims? that can cause a drive line vibration.

definitely driveshaft, because i thought the same thing. I washed it and it still does it. and it does it when i accelerate, not all the time. And i took it in to mitas because i didnt have time to mess with it and he said it was the driveshaft.

Don't ever go to Midas. That's one of the worst shops in town and I have heard stories first hand about them taking money to install new cats and no work being done. If you want to pay to get your stuff worked on either go to Cardoc or Firestone.

Remove the rear shaft and drive in 4 hi. If the vibration is still there than you know it's not the rear shaft.

If it is shaft related, it is more likely to be a u joint or Cardon joint issue than an actual bent shaft.

if it is bent then you can take it to bvd off 2818 in bryan and they can retube it or fix it or straighten or whatever it needs. and yes you can drive safely in 4hi with the rear driveshaft removed until you get it fixed.

vibration under acceleration sounds more like a u-joint to me. I would check that first, it is pretty easy to tell if you pull the caps off and the needle bearings are all dust.

you can check it without even pulling the caps by setting the parking break then putting the transmission in neutral. Try and turn the drive shaft by hand and there should not be any play in the u-joints.

How did you come to this conclusion?

I am really curious what could have happened inside that t-case to cause a vibration.

That output isn't likely to bend before anything else.
