    Wheels and tires

I'm going to have to make a decision by the end of the week to get in line in time to make it to Mason.

I am getting a killer deal on the rims so Allied beadlock is the final decision... just not sure if I should bite the bullet and buy 17" rims... and wait for my 37" krawlers to come in... this will mean no beadlocks for the 38's for a while.

    What is the concensus?

I say go for the 17" w/ 2.5" b.s. It'll give you a bit more stability with the relatively narrow Krawlers.

I'd still run the SXs for trails 'round TX.

recentered hummer wheels, 38.5x16.5 tsl's, or run the goodyears that come with the hummer wheels if they are any good.
    3.75" back spacing

    robert...

only one of your 3 opinions is an option... thank you very much for nothing...

I am trying to improve the lifespan of my Warn axles and CTM joints... this is all part of the quest to make my D44 live a little longer.

Keep in mind I have pretty narrow axles... less backspacing will keep me a little wider... right now with my tires and rims and wheel spacers my track width is 79"... I like the width... wouldn't mind being a few inches narrower... the 2.5" backspacing will eliminate the wheel spacers.

I vote ditto for the 3.75" BS. I went down from 4.25" BS to 3.5", and it makes a bigger difference than one might think. I think that 3.75" strikes that happy medium. Also, if you end up finding that you have too much BS (you know you never have a shortage ), wheel spacers are an easy fix. It's easier to space a wheel out rather than in.

Doug, get some kumhos or mudkings and off the shelf wheels. your putting way too much thought into this. You even admitted yourself that it won't ever be a competition rig.

hummer wheels are cool cause they are street legal and i havent heard of anyone snapping studs on them. I hear of beadlock people snapping bolts on the street all the time.

these wheels are 32 bolt wheels... Rated for 44" tires...
Nobody running them that I've talked to has had a problem. Besides I can get them half priced.

I will never un Kum-ho's you dick ... I can get these Krawlers for less than a set of 35" no-names anyway, much less.
I think they'll be a little easier on my D44.

Hummer wheels won't be my first choice... I'd get them if i was going to run one ton axles.

It may never be a comp rig, but I'll probably compete irregularly on the local and club level... IE: NAARCA

I'll take a set for that price. I was wondering if you had shat out some big money or something.

I'm running a set of their Ecsta 712's on the camaro, and I love 'em. The way I look at it, they make some really badass car tires, so why not give their mud terrains a chance. They look exactly like a BFG MT but they are about $50 cheaper...I'll probably run a set on my scout just to try them out. Just a thought.

***... Robert used to run Kumhos... That's why I will never run them...

As for my price on Krawlers... it suffices to say this competition had several nice perks. List on the new Krawlers will be 400~... I will be getting them for about half what I paid James for my 38's...

    Is that $400 EACH?!?!?!

I don't care how good a tire is supposed to be, there's no way I'd drop that kind of coin on a 37.

yeah it's 400/tire. That's what the goodyears were initially...took over a year for them to come into the real world.

Why don't you call James and ask if he minded the terms of payment? In the end I think he was pretty forkin' happy.
