    Cool 1990 4.2L complete

I have a 1990 Yj 4.2 L bored .060 with 24k miles on rebuild. It comes with accell 8.8mm wires, MSD coil, flow kooler water pump, comp RV cam, a/c compresser, alternator, all brackets, carb, intake, all except fan, exahaust manafold. I have borla headers as well. I am asking $550 for engine and $200 for headers with engine only. I will not sale headers till engine is gone. I also have a TF999 auto with a bad second gear. Asking $50 for it. Replaced engine after 2 years because i build a chevy 350 and 700R4 and finally got the money after the trans wentout. email jaysonrutherford@neo.tamu.edu with questions. Or call 512-869-9719 cell after 8:00 please.

What's wrong with second gear in the auto? Just slipping or something worse? Are all the accessories there like the flex plate, torque converter, etc., everything needed to hook it up to a jeep with a 258 and manual transmission?

actually the input shafts between the auto and the manual and the transfer cases are different but yes dip stick torque converter flex plate and pan no shifter for transfer case though i also have the braket for the engine modified for the borla's and most of the linkage but actually any floor shifter that works a torque flight will work the same

opps and the trans started shifting after one of my auto tech friends helped me adjust the bands and after that second gear went all the way out and doesn't grip at all might be a worn band or possibly a broken band, but you will have to have an auto transfer case with the same tooth count 87'-95 auto i believe TF904 have same tooth count

Can you count the output splines? I thought all tf autos had 23 splines. Correct for a dana 300 case. Maybe in 1990 the manuals used the 21 spline output. I should have mentioned I'd be putting it in a cj.

if it was behind a 90 4.2 from the factory its 23 spline but you'll need a spacer or thick rotating ring because the shaft is too long

my two cents don't know if its worth a ****, but i have a tf904 with the dana 300 and it was bolted to a 85 4.2 and also bolted right up to the 304, and i know a 727 or 999 is the same.

I am not sure if you need a spacer or not. When i converted the 700r4 to my np231 i used an adapter and i do remeber it saying that an auto has a longer shaft than the manual. I was told if I had space left between the two that to shorted the input shaft is not a big deal. luckly for me the adapter bolted up with no problems. can't say the same about loocating to line up with the axle

I checked and it is a 23 spline it is 1/4 in inside the flange. You can shorten the shaft like i said if you can't get it to bolt up to your Transfercase. Is their anyone that might want to buy the engine?
