Question Thinking about buying a trailer

I want some opinions here from you guys with trailers or the guys without. I am looking into purchasing a bumper pull trailer to haul my '49 Chevy home from Montana and don't know what I want to buy. I found a place that has trailers rated at 7000#, 10000# and 12000#. I know hauling jeeps and stuff around a 7000# would be fine but this truck weighs alot more than a Jeep. Would a 7000# trailer be enough? I am inclined to get the 10,000# just because it is beefier, I like my stuff to be tough. But I don't want to spend any more money than I need to. What do y'all think? I would a big gooseneck if I could find one for the right price, but I don't think that is gonna happen.

I would get the 10000# trailer if you can afford it. What are the prices?

I think a 7000# is plenty. That's enough weight to hold two Jeeps alone or one real heavy truck.

Higg's tripple axle gooseneck is rated at 20,000#'s and weighs 9,072#'s. So if you load his trailer up to capacity, you could pull 29,072 - I think the trailer is a little overkill since our trucks are only rated at (GCWR) like 19,000 pounds

The best new Dodge is can take (GCWR) 23,000#'s which means it can pull 16,350 - of course this is the regular cab 2wd with the high output. Our trucks are all 4wd and have a lower tow rating.

Greg weighed his truck and trailer in (with both trucks) at 25,800. This is without Rosey, the dogs, luggage, and icecheasts. Just a few thousand over-loaded...

Look into what exactly they call a 7000# trailer - does that mean it has 2 3500# axles? If so, it might not be much of a trailer. You getting car hauler or utility? There is lots to think about before you buy, IMO. Think about what you are REALLY going to use it for, and maybe go a little heavier duty. On POR, there is an article in tech by mr n you might look at on towing etc. Any other specifics, post up.

All the trailers I am looking at are carhaulers. I talked to a guy today on the pricing and he had one 16' rated at 7000#(2-3500# axles) for $1895 and another 16' rated at 7000# for $2095. The 10,000# trailer has an 18' floor and is listed at $3195. He claims he can come down some if I come in and chat. I like the 10,000# because of the extra 2 feet and it is beefier, but that much more money sucks. I found a 20' gooseneck that has been completely rebuilt for $3000. I like that option just for the goosneck hitch, but the ride height is alot higher. I think if the 7000 aint gonna be enough, I would rather have the heavy duty gooseneck? Keep the thoughts coming.

That is a big price difference. I towed with Greg's small trailer over spring break and it was the best bumper pull trailer I have used even with the extra weight. I say look around and find a better deal on a 10000# trailer.

keep on looking for a lowboy gooseneck. That would be your best bet. I was pricing new 26'~28' 12,000# ones here in houston for about $4100 so a 16' or so might be around $3200 or so
