    OBD II ?'s

So the other day my truck dies while im going down the road. Battery is dead. So easy enough I change the battery and the alternator just to be safe (alternator under warranty, battery so dead it wouldnt charge)

Well the battery was out of the car for a day, so I'm thinking that the computer reset itself. It was a bitch to start after I put the new battery in, but it finally started. It ran ****ty for a couple of minutes, but then it was fine. It ran like a motor with the timing ****ed up on it.

I started it 10 times yesterday throughout the day, and it turned over, but it still took a while to start.

I drove it to work today, and it died again, but it still turned over ok, just no gas getting there im thinking.

So here is my thoughts. The service engine soon light is on, read the code, it says "cam shaft to crankshaft misalignment error" this tells me that either the camshaft positioning sensor or the crankshaft positioning sensor is bad. But I dont know which and they are relatively expensive.

I'm thinking that since the computer has reset, it is freaking out because it is trying to get readings from those sensors and since one is ****ed up, it cant get the timing right.

Any ideas? Does this make sense or should i stop using this marker in a non-ventilated area?

    Update....

I just went out to start it and it started fine.

The other thing i noticed is that the truck is running hot (again).

But it has cooled down now

So maybe the high temp is also ****ing up the computer relearning or what ever you want to call it?

Wow, someone should really do some maintenance on this truck!!!!

On a side note, this marker really does smell good!!!!!

What kind of vehicle. CPSs go out pretty often in powerstrokes. Maybe you should have a more descriptive signature. I have no idea who you are.

I used Tom over at Offroad Unlimited's Scanner to run the code. He had the same problem with a 98 Z-71 he had, but due to the fact that he is quite possibly the biggest stoner in the world he told me in a voice similar to that of Tommy Chong "that he couldnt remember if he replaced the crank or the camshaft sensor"

I should have replaced both of them then (3 months), but I was broke as a joke and had to spend the money on the broke ass power steering instead.

PS I was mistaken it is a correlation error not misalignment, wrong use of the words.

Maybe your tchain jumped a tooth (or maybe distributor gear or dist. drive gear f-ed up). Will run like chit (if at all), hot, start hard, check engine light, etc. Doesn't explain the original alternator problem...I'd say take it to a shop with a reputation for knowing electronics. A messed up relay can act like a billion different mechanical problems.

Well, If I remember correctly, the Crankshaft and Camshaft positition sensors do the same thing. I think it's a redundant system to keep things running. Did you change the cap and rotor or move the distributor? Check the actual sensors and see if they are loose or the connectors on them have any corrosion or are loose. How many miles are on the truck?
