    Alto carnage report

Alright everybody. Post up with what you didn't come back with, or what caused you to not come back on schedule.

I broke something in the rear carrier...still not sure what since it's raining and I might melt.

I would like to thank Jimmy for the awesome two job to get me out of the woods, Vernon for using his TJ as a balance when we were high lifting on the rear bumper, and David for helping high lift the Jeep and get the shaft back in... You guys all rock. I'd like to buy you all a beer at the next meeting I can make it to.

I'm not sure if this guy (plate reads MUD KNG I believe) is having any issues. It started back up but it was running crappy. He also shoved a brand new winch into that crap. I hope he cleans up everything.

Just wanted to thank everyone that helped with getting the S10 revived. Thanks a whole lot, i needed it! After breaking a spark plug off i limped back to town and finally picked up a new spark plug. It ran pretty good after that but had no power and was over heating really badly. Got back today and completely cleaned every inch of the truck and replaced a very clogged air filter, which was the cause of my power loss i found out. Still over heating a little though but much better after washing the motor. I am thinking it is the thermostat sticking or the radiator needs to be rodded out or something. But other than that it runs better than ever. No water got into the motor it looks like, the reason it died in the water is the fan couldnt churn through the water. The starter is toasted though it starts when it wants to, bad solenoid. Winch still runs great even after its submersion into the goo. Just want to say thanks again to everone for everything!

Hey - if I were you, (and i think many others will agree) I f you have not already taken the cover off the winch and checked the internals, then do it!! You can clean and lubricate anything that needs it before it gets ruined. The same really applies to the whole truck after mud....diffs, hubs, etc. Just my two cents as it has happened to me before.

after my 2nd trip to alto i had to replace the entire cooling system....had to get towed back b.c. the water pump went out, broke a radiator mount, fan clutch was screwed and thermomostat was sticking. seems to be a pretty common problem from there. a week later i also had to replace the starter. mud is fun, but it is also the devil.

this was the trip that cost me a cooling system. 33"s

this was the 1st trip after my SAS, (360 in Dallas) this hole cost me a clutch. 37"s

I am gonna take the thermostat out and run it without the thermostat and see if it runs any cooler, and if it does i will know my problem. I still think that the radiator needs to be rodded and a new fan clutch put on. I cleaned the winch extensively as with the whole truck so all shall be well for now.

Did you clean out the radiator REALLY well? How warm is the air that the fan pulls through it? You may have to pull the radiator and clean it better. It didn't get dirty inside from going mudding so I don't see how it would need to be rodded.

I cleaned the radiator as well as it can be cleaned there is no visible mud. I have always had a small overheating problem but it seems this really caused it to overheat to the extreme. The fan is pulling hot air through it.

Damn Austin! You ought to start finding out how deep those holes are before you find yourself ass deep in em... or are you the guy everyone tells to try them first?
