well the v6 that was in pre 94 jeeps was bad ***, it was an oddfire buick engine with a flywheel around 100 lbs, but they stopped using those engines in 72

    You talking about the I6?

look for a 91 or newer, the pre 91 4.0's sucked, and the 258 (4.2) is a piece of chit unless you put efi on it.

must be I-6, was there a 6.2 liter? seems a little too big for a jeep.. what about cj-7? was there a big upgrade from the cj to the yj in durability, etc?

6.2? your thinkin of that gas converted diesel that dave olivers got

    its the 4.2

it depends what year cj7 your comparing to the YJ

YJ's have tougher frames and the steering is bolted to the frame
on the CJ its welded c-channel and the steering box looks like it was an afterthought.

YJ transmissions, transfer cases, and rear axles are junk. but then again so are some late 80's CJ transmissions

If you want to wheel the piss out of it without putting much money in it, get a CJ, if you want to build something up from scratch, a YJ frame and 4.0 engine would be a better start
