sleeving my tierod

I want to beef up my tie rod before I add hydro assist. Right now I have a 1.125x.188 allpro one on my truck. I really don't want to have a new one, so I've been thinking of sleeving it. Of course, the easy way is get dom, but that is expensive, and kinda hard to find, so I've been wondering why not use square tubing (1.5x.188). I'm guessing it might be a real tight fit, and may require a little grinding, but is there anything wrong with doing that? Of course the hyrdo assist ram would be mounted to it, so I would need to weld it to the old tie rod. My guess would be to make it 3/4 to an inch shorter than my old tie rod, and then weld around the ends, but should I maybe drill some holes and plug weld it in some other locations?

yeah, i know, but I'm seeing if there is a cheaper option, as I'm kinda running low on funds, and i still have to put together a hydro assist kit

No reason it would not work. Or some 1 1/4" sch80.

I paid 38 bones for a 4 foot piece of 1.5" DIA w/ .25" wall DOM. That seems cheap to me. That's a tank of gas. Just don't drive anywhere and you'll have the cash.

Eight, I looked at the sch 40, and it seemed it would be a little big for my application, you know, not a real snug fit.

Graystroke, yeah, it can be found, but where? Nutz is the only person i know with some laying around. Plus then you gotta do inserts, hiems, etc, and the price goes up. Or I have to find something with the right inner diameter to reuse my FJ80 ends and then i have to come up with the 23mm taps. So sleaving still looks cheap and easy

I dont suggest using square tubing for a tie rod. Its not gonna have the strength that pipe would have.
If your looking for cheaper I would go with pipe.
It would be easier and stronger to use sch 40... or even better sch 80.

It won't be a tight fit, but close. About .15" bigger ID than your 1.125", but then there's the seam inside so it will fit fairly tight. Mack Bolt and Steel probably stocks it, they had lots of odd sized **** when I went there.

Okay, that should work, I was thinking about the sch40, not 80
