I have my modified Blazer thanks to my brother, a mechanical genius in his own right. He does the mud racing up in East Texas and has built a couple of mud trucks in stages of madness. This is his last creation, the frame built from scratch and over a couple of months. It has 63" tires on it now, don't have any of those new pics but the military tires you see on it are 40" and look pretty small. With 2 1/2 ton axles and full hydrallic steering it will blow through the pits in about 7 seconds.

At first I was wondering about the axles cause they look like 2.5 ton GMs and I think the spin backwards, but then I noticed the motor in the back of the truck. Interesting at least. I guess he gets better weight distribution that way. Is that common on big mud trucks?

The motor is in the back not only for weight (A fuel cell is under the hood) but that and the radiator in the back is the way to build them if you are doing it for serious mud running to keep them cool. Those are 2.5 ton axles from a military truck and from what he says it doesn't ride that bad on the street but doesn't have any articulation really so no off camber for this mud puppy.
I know where about 8 sets of GM 2.5 ton axles are in Corpus. Let your brother know and I can contact the owner if he wants them.

The metal piece sticking out of the back behind the axle is a hook up point for the cable they attack to the truck before it goes into the pit incase it doesn't make it through.
As for the weight the transfer case weights 850 lbs, the axles about 1/2 ton together, and with 63" tires and the body the total is around 3000 to 3500 lbs.
This pic is of my 6 ft tall dad standing next to it a couple of weeks ago and before the 63" tires, those are around 52" I think.
