    foam rubber gasket

    i just got a foam/rubber valve cover gasket, it is new i guess cuz usually i get the cork ones. I have never installed one can i use a bit of silicon on it like the cork one or do i just throw it on and tighten the cover bolts ??

    You gotta put the silicon on it. I have the same type on mine.

    i had the least amount of valve cover leaks on my 258 with the foam gasket and no silicone

    And mine leaked all over the dam where with no silicon.

    I used the silicone rubber gasket and gasget sealer only between the cover and gasket. Nothing between the gasket and block. No leaks.

    might be a good idea to use rtv then, i forgot these are all 80's 258's with there fancy plastic valve covers

    well i converted out of the plastic age to aluminum but i think i will go ahead and but a thin film on both sides and call it good
