I've been working on it almost non-stop during daylight hours since monday afternoon. Still no answers. I have the head off and it was checked by a machine shop, everything is in great condition. The cam slid right out, in one piece. Timing was all still intact. Pistons aren't cracked and move great when I turn the crankshaft. The lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms were fine. The only thing suggested by the shop was that it could have been 180* out of time and wouldn't start. So now I'm down to trying to put things back together and make it start. Just hope the gas hasn't turned to varsol in the last 6 months.

Pour a big friggin' bottle of B12 in the gas tank...it reverses the varsol makin' process and makes it able to run again. Learned that making a `58 chevy run after being parked for 14 years.
