    Poor little XJ

Well i got a digital camera so now we will have in-depth build up coverage!!
I have had this jeep for about 1 1/2 years but work and money has been slow.
I tried to save the 4 banger and slapped on a 3" susp. and 31 muds and hoped to wheel it for a while while i gathered all the good stuff. But the tranny crapped out and the de-facing began.

Project-84 Jeep XJ rock rig-NO MUD????

    ATTN: Trailer queen=NOT street legal
    Current parts:
Chevy 98 (vortec heads) 350-carb'd-torqued out. just need all the acces.

Turbo th350 with RV shift kit.

    NP231 tcase

    big fan/raditor/oil-tranny cooler/(extend front clip)

GM 14 bolt-disc brake conversion, 456s, welded, rig up the brakes and bolt up
    Current Plans:
    78 bronco D44 front-still waiting on it-getting 456s and a lockah

    Front-zj- 4.5" and a spacer maybe
Rear-chevy 56s and a chevy lowering shackle and prob a zero rate sometime

    36 IROKS/or Mud grapplers/16x10 black rockcrawlers

    Cut back off=rag top-not for a while

    full rollcage/sliders

    custom dash/gauges

custom bumpers w/ mile marker or warn 9000

lights-underneath/top-cb-hilift-gas tank inside-lots of other goodies!!!

Beat the everlasting **** out of it on the trail!!!!

    SUGGESTIONS/RECOMINDATIONS WANTED

the diff for the 44 is on the wrong side this has been gone over in detail in the other thread, and maybe contemplate going with a little less lift.

Why the 231? A 205 will go on the th350 with no adapters, or if you don't like the 2:1 low range of that, a 208 has 2.6:1, but is not as strong, and no twinstickability. But still much stronger than 231.

Being a trail rig, go with the 4.88, or maybe lower, not sure how low the 14 bolt goes.

True track isn't limited slip is it? Don't bother with a limited slip, it'll just spin one tire and piss you off.

kopecki-yep got the 231 before i thunk things over-already mated to 350-i still want to be able to get it going pretty fast in mud or sand so i want to stay around 4.56-the tranny has a rv shift kit so that will lower everything and the 231 is somewhat low also. havent decided on what to put in front-waiting to see what i end up having-def full locker!!-even if i cant turn!

kevin-cody may have me a 44 too. and the lift-yeah i know its a little high-i think i may just get the full 6.5 kit and build from it-engine first-lift is just dreaming now!!

not much progress this week-got motor mounts off and steering box, cut some wires and vacuum line crap BUT my truck tranny took a massive **** on turkey day and left me stranded in east texas-got to be chained home by my granpa. may be buying compressor and impact/air wrench pretty soon so then bolts will be flying off!!!! what brand of steering box should i replace mine with?

i would send the box to west texas offraod and get it rebuilt and tapped for hydro steer, imo thats the way to go on the steering box and system. if you want you can check out mine and look at it when you come to look at the axle.
