Here's a pic of a v-drive as seen in the free manual I found online that saved me about $45. Mine just has this little clutch deal that may or may not have a little reduction in it depending what model it is. The motor is ready to pull, and I officially named it the "Goodnight Irene"

    Thunderbird will do just fine.

hmm, what kind of drive is in there? im interested to know how they get the angular offset. are you taking yours apart? if so, take pics.

edit: one of those with dual outputs would be killa for a rockwell or tractor axle rig.

I have seen some outboards with a angled drive. I would guess its a spur gear.

I would make sure the output shaft seal is good or you might wanna replace it. Some boats its just a packed rope seal. But you might wanna check it cause you dont want water in your tranny/V drive.

That isn't in mine, it's in the generic manual I found online. Mine is just a little straight through clutch unit.

ah, so your waterpump is facing the front of the boat?

i think thats what its showing on the right, mike. two helical gears and a spur gear. so, its basically a gear driven t-case with a pinion for an output shaft. cool.

there's no reduction, but I guess you're saying to get your reduction in the rockwell/tractor axles.

yes. however if you were going to have to build a new one with dual outputs, it would be easy to incorporate some reduction.

It looks to me like the top gear on the V-drive might be a larger diameter than the output gear so this would be an "overdrive" for lack of better terms would it not. Jimmy, I think this may have been the reduction he was talking about, not your straight clutch system...

    RESURRECT!!!

Yanked the motor out of Irene tonight, hopefully it's the head gasket. Water in the motor for sure, but nothing looks cracked or too rusty to clean up. We'll know for sure tomorrow night when we get it torn down the rest of the way. I can feel my bank accout hurting already. Anyone know how credit cards work? I have to pay the money back right?
