    1990 Chevrolet Sub Trans Problems

Alright, so I'm not down here in CS for more than a day and the transmission on my sub is acting weird. When you put it in drive it clunks hard, not the normal clunk it makes because its got 220k miles, but it shakes the truck. Also it revs up real high for the shift from 1 to 2, and it is violent too. I checked the fluid, its fine. Its a 2wd half ton with a 350 and I guess a th350. I don't really know. I know its got alot of miles, don't tell me I need to rebuilt the trans. Tell me what the problem could be.

700r4. You don't need to rebuild it you need to throw it in a lake.
Is it leaking anywhere? Fluid didn't look burnt?

Fluid looked clean and was the right color. No leaks that I know of, I don't remember having to top anything off except the oil. It doesn't leave any puddles after its been parked. Its a good truck, my dad drove it for 219 of those 220 thousand miles and he some how makes vehicles last forever. The whole thing is pretty much original and it drives great, other than the transmission lately.

If you got 220,000 miles out of a 700R4 without a rebuild I'd say you have gotten more than your money's worth. Personally if I knew what the problem was I wouldn't fix just that problem anyways, I'd rebuild the whole thing. However, it does sound like a torque converter problem to me.

I agree that it would be worth spending the time to rebuild it now. That way it won't leave you stranded in the near future

I drove it alot today and it seemed to get better the more I drove it. I baby it so nothing breaks since its got so many miles. Reverse seems normal as well. I don't know.

Also, in order to keep my head from being introduced to the concrete I had to use my arm to keep myself in the jeep. It got a little messed up. Broke both bones and got a little road rash, and had to have two plates and 12 screws put in. But I'm thankful I still have a arm and supposedly I'll make a full recovery.
