1971 Cutlass Supreme Convertible Build-Up Thread

This is going to be the thread that I use to track all of my research and progress. I'm not quite getting started, but once I get a few button and tuck items done on the Cruiser, off I go. It will be a pro-touring theme and will no doubt be a 3 - 5 year project. I'm planning to start with the wheels and suspension and maybe a cam. Then on to the body work. Then the paint. Finally the interior. Then probably back to the drivetrain.

The stock colors are silver on black with a black top. I may use silver, but I'd really like to do a two tone paint job. I'm thinking black on the top with either a pewter or silver on the sides. Something Foose-esc.

I saw a Chevelle at SEMA that had the wheel and tire look I want. 20 x 10s on the back and 18 x 8s on the front. He said they fit well. Had to flatten the seams a little and they rub on hard turns, but man they were sweet. I wish I would have gotten a picture. I also didn't get the offsets, but I'm sure they're documented somewhere.

This thread discusses some of it.

I'd prefer air bags (if not spindle drops) and it looks like I'll have to add custom control arms in the rear with tubular A-arms in at least the tops, if not both, to fit the somewhat extreme wheel/tire combo.

Here's a very helpful thread to get me started.
