is the 208 chain driven?
is the 208 chain driven?

yes both the 208, and 1356 are chain, dont get a gay chain drive, use the one you have or find another 205
He who dies with the most **** wins, after seeing your collection you are in the lead no doubt!
they are not as heavy as the 205 so they are easy to put in too... and i have the shifter for the 208
the gearing on the 208 is much better than the 205.
...
the only way to run a 205 is behind a 203... otherwise it sucks because it is only 1.98/1

this page is good for comparing x-cases
np205 1.98:1, np208 2.61:1, BW1356 2.72:1

and i have the 208 and 1356 and neither need to be rebuilt
may want to correct that 208 gear ratio
tate you still got the shifter, linkage, and boot for that 1356?
I know plenty of people that have beat the piss out of chain drives including myself and have never had a problem other than leaking from the slip shaft. Unless you hit a rock and frag the aluminum case I'd say your better off with a 208 then a 205. Nevermind me though, i've never wheeled with a chaindriven case.Originally Posted by CheapJeep

I cracked the front case half in the burban from a bad front driveshaft u-joint. The aluminum cases tendency to crack for almost any reason has me kind shying away from them in general.

i got it at the junyard here in waco, it was stored inside so I am suprised that there is water in it, ide just pull it apart and replace the seals, maybe bearings.
