So, I had my electric fan switch in the head and it turned the fan on way too early. The coolant never even got warm. I put my dash gauge sensor in the heater hose and the needle hardly ever came of the peg.

Anyways - that wan't working for me. I had Cody add a bung at the outlet of my radiator so when the water out gets to 195, the fan will kick on. Putting the switch that low in the radiator only works with these new engines because the thermastat in on the inlet to the engine (outlet of the radiator) and not on the outlet of the engine. The coolant out really needs to be at least 195 for the thermastat to open. Anyways, I hope this works - I changed all the wiring around for it too.

The last thing for me to do before Clayton (besides get the Patrol done) is to make a better mount for the ice chest...

I also drilled and tapped the water pump for the steam vent.

i like that solution. let me know how it works.

the fan definately wont come on till after the thermostat opens now. the thermostat being in the wrong place still confuses me. it explains why i couldnt figure the system out with out researching it though.

Get that thing working. It looks like my poop wagon will even make it. <fingers crossed>

Post more pics of your engine bay and details in the gallery when you get time. I'm curious to see how you grouped wires, etc.

    To vent steam maybe.

I am guessing it is like a popoff valve if I had to be a guessing man....

Scott didn't you send out your pcm for some programming? I think you could have setup the pcm to use the built in fan relay control. I don't know if its enabled stock, but it is an option in there.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a product that taps into the obd2 port and lets you hook gauges up to it, but I can't remember who makes it.

That was a mistake in the beginning - I should've let them program the fans into the computor. They could've done it but it was too late after I got everything together.

    WTF is this?
so I took it for a spin to warm up the water so I could check the fan operation. Everything works good. The head temp stays right about 200 degrees and the fan only comes on every now and then - and only for less than 10 seconds (it really moves some air!!)

Anyways - I pulled it into the garage for it to cool down - so I could top off the coolant. Pulled the top and found this???

Its a very light foam / froth on top of the water. It's a little gritty also.
I think that this was the first time that the entire coolant system actually got up over 120 degrees - the fan was always on once the head temp got to 195 - the radiator was always cold.

My best guess is dirt and sand from inside my heater core - when I got that Jeep it seems like it came out of a sandy creek, all of the nooks and crannys (inside the frame etc...) was full of sand.

I'm plan on pulling the heater core hoses off and taking a water hose to it and see what happens - it'll have to wait till the weekend.

Also - the heater only blows semi-warm air instead of hot air...
