    while were talking about references. ill point out carrol smith's series. i dont how many know of them but they are the Bible of the racecar world. the engineer to win should be read by anyone building they're own vehicle. ive never read his fastener book but i bet its just as good.

    ran across this one that is probably the best I've seen so far, and it was written in 1948

    Automobile Chassis Design by Dean Averns

    talks about axle design, proper gearing for peak torque, brake efficiency, fuel consumption, and horsepower, and a bunch of other stuff I haven't had time to go through yet.

    after talking with a couple of CORR truck builders and crew chiefs, it seems there is very little engineering involved in the design of desert trucks. its all just know how and "it just works" design. therefore i will add to this thread with a list of my favorite race car design books.
