    Yes this is a gay argument but you may be right about the motor being the same. The tuning is different however. The EX had lower MPG on the sticker because it's tuned up more than the others. The HF could be special ordered with a really de-tuned motor. The difference between models is not just interior (and wheels). The EX was the only model that had 4-wheel ABS. I don't remember if hers is a 2003 or 2004, maybe there's a difference between the years.

    I was looking at getting one when my mom's driving school unloaded the honda. A 2000 TDI will run you at least $9000 or better. The one they have at my mom's driving school is jacked up and only gets about 34 mpg or some ****. When I got the civic it needed a motor mount, timing belt, alignment, and two new tires, so I guess it was closer to $2500, but it runs like a champ now. I think mileage on a TDI is closer to 46 or so. Do the math on a $9000 jetta vs a let's say $4000 civic that is about the same. 16 mpg Difference, how long would it take to make up that 5 grand. Funk that, they are both homogay cars, pimp the civic.
    Boats and hoes

    Stumble in to the liquor store
    With a dollar-fifty for a bottle of wine,

    Here you go:

    15,000 miles/ 30 mpg = 500 gallons * 2.79/gallon = $1395

    15,000 miles/ 46 mps = 326 gallons * 2.79/gallon = 909.54 (diesel is the same as gas here)

    Difference = $486

    Price of Civic - 4k
    Price of TDI - 9k

    5k/486 = 10 1/2 yrs

    Plus extra maintenance on diesel, plus hastle of finding a station that carries it. Not worth it.

    Hey Jerry, why did you pay four thousand extra for that cummins?

    Well I, uh also wanted to tow stuff.

    Which you've done how many times?

    Well once, son of a!

    what if you decide that you like playing with rancid vegetable oil and doing chemistry in your garage? Then you get a nearly free tank whenever you feel like making it, plus the satisfaction of petroleum independence and lower emissions...
    you can justify it if you really want to

    I know a guy with a crappy vw pick up that said person could buy in addition to his civic for cheap, and play OPEC.
