    injection pump question

Does an injection pump actually "pump," ie generate suction and pressure, or does it just distribute fuel? The real question is can I run my little vw with a line going from a can of fuel to the injection pump? How about gravity fed? Or do I have to clean the tank and use the in-tank pump for pressure to see if it works? Thanks

use a primer bulb from a boat! To answer your question I have no idea, but I know most newer diesels have lift pumps.

use a small exteral inline pump from the can to the injection pump, which charges the injection pump. Yes all the "injection"pump does is distrubute. You can run from can to injection pump but i wouldnt recomend it.

I was hoping you would answer Rowdy...
first, Doug I started searching the VW diesel forums and found that a lot of those guys actually do stick a primer bulb between the filter and IP. Now I need to find one made of Viton.

Rowdy the IP has to make some pressure, right? since you get really high pressures in the fuel lines btw the IP and the injectors, but it's all low pressure before the IP, right?

I dont know for sure but I'm prety sure you NEED a lift pump. The 6.2 has a mechanical pump on the side of the block in the same place as gassers.

Yea gravity fed will work. And the injection pump pumps to about 2000 psi.

    cool thanks guys...
looks like most primer bulbs aren't B100 safe so I'll try and get it running with it then take the bulb out.
