    mercury outboard guru needed

So im trying to get my boat all buttoned up and redone so i can use it this summer. the motor is old but in seeming good condition for its age. it is a 1969 125 hp 6 cyl 3 carb motor. I've had it running in the past but cannot seem to get it going right now. Anyone here who knows anything about it have time to come by and help me take a look. i think the carbs might need rebuilding and maybe a new water pump is in order. If not im going to take it to a place in brehnam on monday and see what he says. lots of beer and maybe some monetary compensation if your real good. anyone good enough??

Mike definately is much better at outboards...

Waterpump shouldn't be too bad. I have a couple of mercury websites that deal specifically with old mercury's if you want them.

The carbs could be a pain in the ass. If you don't have a book for it, buy one. I'm guessing you have to sync multiple carbs on a boat just like you have to on a motorcycle.

2 strokes are easy just 3 things to keep in mind.

    Fuel
    Spark
    Compression

I would check for spark sometimes 2 strokes will fowl plugs too.

Depending on how long its been sitting I would clean the carbs.

well im pretty sure they need rebuilding as the last time they were done was about 10 years ago and it looks like they may leak a bit. hard job, easy? what would you rate it. to just clean them up what should i do.

Yeah might be a good idea to take them apart and clean them up. If they are leaking the floats might not be set just right.

I would check the impeller in the water pump, they are usually really easy to get to and alot of time need to be changed almost every year, they are pretty cheap, around $10-20
