My attempt for more fuel economy.

I guess I only have one 4WD now because they don't make reverse rotation 3.08s for a Dana 60 front. The truck is SO much quieter it isn't even funny. I used to not use L for anything and I towed everything in OD so now I have an extra gear. I'll report back after getting some mileage numbers.

let me know how much better gassmileage you get. I am in the same situation w/ 4.10s in my truck although I just slowed down to 65 and save alot of gas

out of curiosity, why would you put gears in the rear knowing that there is nothing to match it for the front?

I think you should do a long-travel IFS swap, then you could start a D60 collection like Doug, plus it would be sweet to see someone air out a powerstroke!

Because I dont use 4wd anymore but eventually I will. I couldnt afford an overdrive unit at $3,000 and Im not getting rid of this truck.

[Chadnutz Math]Im hoping for 20 mpg out of this and that is coming from 14-15. If I am currently spending $300 per month on fuel I should see a 25% savings or $75 per month which would pay for itself in less than a year. It will be longer before I need 4wd again.[Chadnutz Math]

Probably 3.55 (the other option for my generation), but that would only get me 2 mpg. I did this for the noise and the fuel. I really don't care about 4wd right now. One day I'll have a sissy car and then I'll go back to the 4.10s.

I can save you some more money and give you better gas mileage. Ill find a beam front axle to swap in instead of that 60 and Ill take the 60 off your hands w/ the 4:10's

I liked the 3.55s in those trucks. Mine got better mileage and pulled better at 75 than at 70. Then my next truck with 4.10s got 2mpg better with a lift and 35s. The first was a 2wd. I doubt you'll be better off with 3.08s than 3.55s, seems the engine would be running below its powerband. The 4.10s are too low for those trucks. good luck

I don't give a **** about the powerband because I'm making twice the power that it did stock. If it starts to smoke I downshift, which is only on steep hills north of Canyon lake and pulling the jet skis down 46 (hilly). That is only because the speed limit is 60 and thats near the bottom end of my range for that gear on hilly roads. The truck is scary fast now (top end). I don't even want to know how fast I can go...

Ahh **** it.. If I can hit 3400 RPM in one of the higher modes I'd be going 130.

I am kinda with Ryan on the powerband issue. Lower RPM does not always mean better fuel milage. You could be lugging you engine causing worse fuel milage on the freeway.

wow I think this is the longest Ive ever seen a chadnutz thread without it getting off-topic.

Do you have any fo sure numbers on the mileage. I know with the jeep I got better mileage when I went with lower gears.

    Anyways
