got the aussie in, had to repalce the outer bearings and seals on the axle shafts, so that took a bit longer than planned but its good to go now. Tested it a bit in a ditch infront of the house and it seems to have made a big difference, just need to get it out on the trails and test it good. The fan is also going to take a little more work than planned so we didnt mess with it this weekend, maybe next.

now that im gonna chop the top and build a cage im kinda at a loss of what to use, a lot of people with wags use 2.0"x.120" DOM or HREW. I have quite a bit of 2-3/8" J55 oil field tube (thickness is greater than .120, not sure what it is though, didnt get a chance to measure it). Would this stuff be ok?

what are you going to bend it with?

I would use 1-3/4" HREW or DOM or a mix of both.

hydraulic bender, already have the dies for it

other than weight, what would be the advantages to using 1-3/4?

oilfield pipe is heavy as crap ask tate, hrew or dom is much lighter.

mostly weight. Kopecki will tell you oilfield pipe will be great, it's just not how I would do it.

No, I wouldn't build a cage out of oilfield pipe. I'm not familiar with J55 but the normal oilfield pipe is a medium carbon steel not meant to be welded with normal methods. And its usually magnetized so it welds ****ty. It is great for sleeving links because its stronger than chromemoly, and it doesn't matter if the welds crack. 1 1/2" sch40 pipe is stronger than 1.75" .120 wall hrew. I used 1 1/2" sch40 high yield in my cage, and that's stronger than 1.75" .120 dom. The 1 1/2" sch40 is 1.9" od with .145 wall, so even though the material in normal pipe is not as strong as hrew, there's more of it.

its mostly because pipe was not designed for structual loads, but it will work to protect you from a roll. Feller's buggy was build almost all out of pipe and it did fine.

Roll cage safety is more about design than it is in material. If you use an excelent design with pipe will be safer/ stronger than a crappy design and chromo DOM
