    Explorer V8 Auto Transmission

My brother-in-law has a ford exploder thats transmission just took a giant poopy on him. Its a V8 302, the one with the GT 40 heads. I am not sure what model the auto is, but does anyone have one? Anyone know if an F150 auto will bolt up and work??

Looking for something cheap that will get it rolling so they can sell it. They took it to the dealer and he said it would be $1200 to fix and that it had broke a band.

I think when ford first started puting the GT-40 heads on them they offered two choices for transmissions a junky 5 speed auto and a junky 4 speed auto (aod-e). If its the aod-e 4 speed one out of a half ton should work i think. You could easily find one in a junk yard. I don't remember any 5 speed autos in half tons. What year is it?

JB Weld only works on manuals!

$1200 sounds cheap...must be due to the high volume of broken ford tranny's causing parts to get really cheap!

it only sounds cheap because you are a rover guy. thats pretty standard for domestic tranny's.

$1200 to rebuild and install a tranny is cheap on any car. most GM's will run $1500 up $2000+

Apparently it is a 4R70W, which is a modified AODE from what I read...

ok mr internet....go to the dealer and ask them how much then come tell me I was right. Karl said "dealer". Were not talking about Larry Bird and pulling the tranny out yourself.
