    Cabinets

I've wanted cabinets in the garage for a while to get crap off the floor, but I didn't want to spend $1xx dollars for ~2.5x3 ft cabinets. I found these fence boards and put about $60 into this cabinet. It is 36" tall and 40.5" wide. I plan to make a few more for myself and then see if any of my neighbors or coworkers are interested in some.

I finished the first one this weekend. I'm going to make 1 or 2 more. When I make the last one, I'll put some old 1x6s on the side so it covers the bright new wood. I had to put a 2x4 between the cabinet and the wall, and I'll have to put one between each cabinet so the doors don't hit the wall/adjacent cabinets. I'm also going to add a 1x2 to the middle shelf (like the perimeter) to cover up the side of the plyboard. You can see this on the picture of it where the doors are open. When I added the brackets, I wanted them tight. This raised the center of the shelf a little. Some weight by putting stuff in the cabinet helped, but the front cover piece will hide that. Lastly, I'm going to add some diagonal 1x4s to each door for looks. Cost for plywood was around $35. Total cost was about $60 includinghinges, brackets, screws, 1x4s, and plywood.

It looks good... That would match the furniture in my living room. It may be the picture, but the middle shelf looks a little thin, but that may just be because I overload shelves with crap.

The shelf is 1/2" thick. It moves a tiny bit if you jerk on it, but with the racks it does not give under load. I have that shelf almost full with oil/fertilizer/coolant, etc, right now and it's fine.

My gfs dad is going to give me a bunch of fencing, so I'm going to rig up some jigs to make them easier to build. If I get a surplus, I'll put them in the for sale section.

That's probably more than thick enough... I guess the picture makes it look thinner. It'll look really nice with those across the front wall of a garage and a workbench underneath.

I would have rather had them on the back wall so they are visible from the street, but I have too many contours and panels on that wall.
