Next, I looked at 100% ackerman steering geometry. Basically, what this means is that when turned, both front tires follow the necessary radius circle to make the turn, resulting in zero slip angle. This allows all of your tractive force to be applied in the direction of motion. The turning radius ackerman steering would give me would be 233 inches, but with zero slip angle.

I like the idea of having 100% ackerman steering and drew up some arms to build. However, after considering the cost and labor of building my own arms, I decided that I would go a little different route.

I looked at WFO's arms and liked the way they were built. Trevor has great phone manners and was very helpful, so I went with his arms. They have a little ackerman built into them that ended up giving me ~32% ackerman with my wheelbase. It's a compromise between the two aforementioned arrangements and gives a little of both worlds. I expect a turning radius of 209 inches. This doesnt seem right compared to what I've been reading about built Jeeps as a stock CJ has about the same turning radius. I left the forward portion of the passenger side arm on so that in the future, if we decide we dont like the manners of full hydro, I can swap the orbital out for a box and a drag link and run hydro-assist.

Did they let you order just the three shims, or did you have to get two sets?

Trevor is a cool guy. I figured i would have to order two sets, but he said he'd send me three, no problem.

Most of them I have come across were aluminum, and I like how you welded them in like that.

How tight is your oil pan/crank pulley clearance with that ram mounted above/behind the axle? Are you going to have to limit up travel much?
