did you set it to whatever base advance I wrote down?

I couldn't find any timing tables for the 258 so I hooked up the drb2 scanner to my brothers 4.0 yj and just used whatever vacuum and advance it displayed.

    (let's hope nothing beaks...)
Make sure you're not using the coil hot wire to power your choke. The choke can suck a lot of juice cause it's basically powered on the whole time, causing you to lose some of your spark.

Personally, I woulda just stuck with the old mechanical choke carb. I rebuilt the carb in my old 72 FJ40 and it ran great. I like having the mechanical choke, just like most other mechanical vs. automatic devices, cause it puts you in control of the process. It just sucks when you forget to turn it off.

Actually I was getting really tired, and I quickly ran the choke into the headlights. I didn't set the choke screw just right before I ran it home and it ran like a scalded ape the whole way home hitting close to 85 mph of certain stretches of 45, and I knew then that I had screwed something up. I got it to my ranch played with the choke screw, idle and mixture and throttle cable and got it idling a LOT lower but now i need to fix my throttle cable cause I cut the housing too short and it is acting like a governor...oh well. Then my dad stuck the damn thing on the front of our property cause the tires are so bald...

Got to use my winch...so no harm done.
