Saenz Tamales in Bryan is the Shiznizzle for Tamales. He pretty much just runs a hangout for mexicans on Friday and Saturday, but he makes badass tamales around the holidays. He may have more permanent hours these days or it may be shut down, haven't talked to the guy in awhile. If you go, tell Al that Jimmy sent you.

most tamales I've eaten were nothing special, until a friend started bringing brought some back from near his hunting lease. I think the place was in west texas, and basically this old mexican man spent the week making chicken, beef, and pork tamales, then sold them on the side of the road on saturday. I want to say he made between 50-60 dozen every week, and always sold them out within 3 hours. I've never eaten another tamale that could even compare to these things.

The best tamales can't be bought, unfortunately. They're given around Christmas time. However I remember a dozen that were awesome that I bought from a guy who was selling them out of a cooler in the trunk of his car on Pena Blvd in Denver. Wonder if he's still there?

    Hey, get your own thread!

Back on topic, I used to work at Garcia's in College Station, their tamales where ok when they first made them, but then as they aged (a week or two) they got bad....

You will be hard pressed to find a truly good tamale in a restraunt (even the real authentic ones). The good ones are made by hand in some ol' meskins house and are made of pork (hogs head to be a little more precise).

The ones you find all over houston in the gas stations in a crock pot sellin 3 for a dollar are not bad though. A dozen of these and two tall boy budweisers are the best colonic evarhhh!!!!

If Travis doesn't gend up getting a kitten for you then there is a lady at my work who loves out in the country and she had some barn cats that had some kittens. She is older and isn't to camera savy so I can't get pics but they will be ready in about 5 weeks if you are interested. They are black and white and some are blonde, there are two litters. Chris and I are thinking about getting one if Molly doesn't eat it.

a quick update since everyone seems to care so much about kittens

She didn't know if she would have the time to take care of it so she didn't get one. So I bought her a turtle instead. So, and decent recipes for turtles?
