Ford Engine Crap-Irene Needs your help!

Ok, found out today the 351W in my boat is junk (cracked) and one head is toast, possibly the other as well. The heads are E5's (whatever the fawk that means, I just know they suck)

I'm trying to do this on the cheap but without cutting corners. I wouldn't mind having decent heads for the right price. Fred has told me GT40 heads can be had and make a good improvement, but if they are a whole lot more I'm out.

I guess I need heads and a block. What do you Ford guys have, how much do you want for it, and got any good advice on what to run?

Did I mention I need the lower half of the exhaust manifolds as well.

Why the hell did I buy a boat?

Think it'd be that hard to put a 5.3 in a boat? (that's a joke)
    Boats and hoes

Stumble in to the liquor store
With a dollar-fifty for a bottle of wine,
I know just what I'm lookin for
    Thunderbird will do just fine.

I don't think the glide would work. I don't want to change anything, would have to get new tranny and mounts. A 351W should be pretty cheap to build and make plenty of power.

We had a 19' ski boat with a 302, plenty of power. V8 explorers have the good heads.

i gave a set of e6's and e5's to plano machine shop to get them out of my way about a year ago, for a 302 though.

maybe see if they still have them sitting around.

'e' means it came from the 80's. 5 means the design originated in 85.
I had e7's on the f150 in its final form before dumping it. They are supposed to have smaller CC's, I think it was noticeable difference, but I can't remember.

I don't know how valve sizes work on a 351 vs a 302, I would hope they are bigger on the 351.

yeah, we could probably put a 302 in it....but where's the fun in that? It had a 351, so why not put one back in. I don't think it's going to be that hard to find one. From what I've read so far, 302 heads can be used on a 351W as long as the headbolt holes are drilled for the larger headbolts on a 351W. I'd like to see a set of GT40 heads on top of a 351. Seems to be a common thing when people rebuild these in their boats. They say it makes a very noticable difference in performance. Supposed to bring the marine 351 from the 230-240hp range up near 300.
