    TC power steering pumps

I'm looking for some info on TC type pumps. Right now I have the a modified toy pump with hydro assist on my toy. It gets the job done, but I would prefer something with more power, so I'm thinking of converting to full hydro steering. The toy pump doesn't make the gpm necessary for this, so I'm planning on running a TC type pump instead.

So here are my questions. Are all TC types pumps the same, or do certain ones make more gpm or higher pressures? I'm looking for one without a built in reservior, and would prefer something with no wierd fitting sizes. I know some jeeps have this kind of pump, but are there any other vehicles I should look at as well? Finally, are there any writeups on modifying these pumps for more power?

These pumps are modified the same way as the canned ham style.

Mine is off a 4 cylinder s10 pickup, and I'm on my 2nd rebuilt pump. I think its because of crappy rebuilds. Even the NAPA one came wrapped in paper towels with hearts and bears printed on it.

This one hasn't been modified, but when this one goes out I'm going to call PSC or put a ZF pump back on it.

The TC is easy to mount to the toyota engine. All it requires is minor reworking of the stock mount to make it work. All the aftermarket pumps for toys use the TC type design. I've never seen a P pump mounted to a toy engine.

if you absolutely want a TC pump and need a remote res. look at a 93-97 LT1 camaro.

so are TC pumps that crappy? I've done some searching, and some people don't seem to like them, but most seem to think they are a decent pump

I don't think going from a toyota pump to a TC is an upgrade, just a replacement.

they over heat very easily in my experience, any p pump is run in an oil submersed container

its an upgrade in gpm, since toy pumps are really low, even when modified

If you go full hydro, let me know, I'd be interested in your assist stuff.

okay. It would most likely be midway through next month if I do. Right now I'm trying to decide whether or not its worth upgrading all the way to full hydro
