    Very close call

Take a look at these. These are the big end bearings off of the Mack. Notice th oilling hole...maybe the reason the oil pressure was only around 30 PSI running down the HWY. Suppose to be 60 PSI. When I was driving down to Stephenville (before the UFO sightings ) I noticed a slight knock when coasting...didn't hear it accelerating under load...figured it might be a rod. We took it into the shop on the way back...mechanic said same thing. really close call...crank was ok, replaced all the rod bearings and mains, new oil pump, new rod on that hole (it was out of round and needed re-sizing), new rings. should be good for another million.

[laughing] ha, ha, ha that's funny! except that a IH motor cost $200 if it throws a rod a Mack is $6500 if it does. now, I know what you said was a joke... don't get me wrong...I was just pointing out the fact that an IH motor is worth more in scrap.
    followed by the obligatory triple:
and one extra for good measure:

well, after one of the heads was pulled, top of one of the pistons had damage from something..we suspect it was from the turbo )looks to be a new one on the engine). Pulled the Piston and the rings are fawked up looking..it is like they were chrome plated or something and flaking all along the edges. bearings $300, Rod $150 Piston $200 Plus gaskets $200? Whole engine rebuild kitw/ new sleeves and pistons, rings, bearings and gasket set $1600....so the whole thing is getting rebuilt...picked up a new oil pump (rebuilt) from mack $400..cha-ching! ouch! probably end up having $3k in it after this...sucks. We were trying to get out for $1200 w/ new bearings, and oil pump. Things just kept getting worse.

3k for such an engine kit really aint bad. If ya have any questions, give me a call or pm. Ill be glad to help in anyway. That was one of mack's downfalls is the chrome plated rings. They saw it as a friction cutter but the coating wasnt good enough. Common problem,
