4.88s and an install kit. Turns out this whole job thing is really paying off.

These are for the 14 bolt.
Next thing is a paycheck, since this drained me. Spindles, bearings, new kingpins, crossover steering, and the 60 goes under the truck. Then gears, detroit, 35 spline stuff, and finally wheel it. All upgrades from this point on (except maybe a set of injectors) will be for the 60.
The truck is going to be a 2wd wonder for a while with 4.10 fronts and 4.88 rears.
sounds like a bad dood mud bogger, the front can pull you out faster....hmmmm..Originally Posted by AgDieseler

In a word, wow! If you put this thing in drive, you had better want to go forward. It's like I have it in 4-lo all the time. The Detroit chirps more frequently in turns, but it's not violent at all. Interestingly, in town performance isn't that different. Cruising on the highway is where these gears make themselves known.
75 mph @ 2400 rpm gives 5.5 - 6 psi of boost and 550 - 600 on the EGT. Locked up in 4th, I can lean into it a little bit and it's easy to gain speed on hills with boost topping out around 12 psi before the 700R4 tries to grab 3rd.
The real fun in all this was watching Luis set up the gears. I had never seen the guts of my 14FF disassembled, and had never seen a rear end set up. The attention to detail was awesome. Backlash is set at .010, and we ended up shimming the pinion to .023 to get a great pattern. Drive side was perfectly centered, and the coast side had the slightest bit of toe in.
My speedo is highly inaccurate now, and I need to rebalance my rear driveshaft. One mod begets another.
After the 500 mile break-in, I'll see how well these BFGs can hold on to the pavement, and what difference there is while towing.
...now if I could just find some time to install these injectors I have...
Why is the driveshaft out of balance now?
Until now, I don't think my driveshaft ever turned fast enough to show symptoms of the damage from the burban's inaugural Llano run. That would the the run that centered around King Cobras.
Fedex left me a stub shaft, from a 10 bolt, with 19 splines.
I concede defeat. I'll buy you a 'stone.
Whoohooo! I win again!!
This is the first pattern we ran at .025. The final pattern at .023 looks nearly the same except the coast side is better centered. It was late, and I didn't grab a pic.
Big thanks to BDR for coming out and lending a hand.
How did the crossover work out, Eric?

It was very cool seeing Louis set up that diff...didn't look all that difficult either, but you would have to know exactly how to read the pattern...might have to try it sometime
thanks again for the use of the shop and all the help
hope it doesn't get you fired
First tankfull - 520 miles - 1/2 highway & 1/2 in-town Aggieland
16.5 mpg
I expect that a full run on the highway at 65 (2000 rpm) will yield 17 or 18 mpg.
what were you getting before?
