God Damnit Cooks!
not cook's fault, gotta adjust the valve once the engine is running
One of my 258s liked to do that. I pulled the rocker arm off and welded a piece of 1/2" pipe about 1/4" long to the rocker arm centered on the dimple for the push rod. Never happened again.
easy fix?
TCC?
Mark told me they set the valves on the engine stand and that was the actual preferred way to do it.
Yes and no. Yes if you knew what you were doing and it didn't keep popping up other problems.
Was finally able to find a working timing light and got the timing dialed in to about 12 deg initial so that it will start. It's a mother to get it started though. Ran out of light, patience and will to keep working on it though. I have never thought about ever selling this rig off, but it is a definite possibility right now. This **** should not be that hard. :(
I believe you have to reset lash onco the lifters pump up when it running, SBC's are like this im guessing BBC's are too. Atleast that what i did when we put the first cam in it. With the motor running looseneach rocker till it ticks then tighten it till the ticking goes away then another1/4 turn. Do it to each and you should be set
Ed if you need another set of hands to work on your rig, let me know, I don't have anything going on this week in the evenings.
you do not have to have it running to set a hydro cam, that is a mistake made by not checking the lash in firing order. if you check it in the firing order and wait til the intake is closing in that order you can not f it up. if you do it in firing order you dont have the chance of catching one of the exhaust lifters starting the ramp.
Not a problem. I am too tired to fork with it anymore as it is. :flipoff2:
Thanks in advance for sending it.
Ok. I couldn't remember and it had me worried we missed something.
did it get there yet?
I forgot to check the mail last night. Will call grandad and have him check today.
Got the new chip in, now need to reset the valve who's rocker had come loose. I think it is pretty close. Going to order a 70 series flowmaster (if they don't have one at the parts store today) and some heat shielding for the starter and clutch slave. Need to find some gasket material for the new filter housing I picked up, a backfire set the old gaskets afire when I was first starting to mess with it ( ). May try to get the risers and the filter base plate machined so that I don't need the gaskets.
Got the valve reset with the new double locking fasteners (thanks for the info on those Fred), and the glasspack replaced with the new 70 series Flowmaster. Gonna try and get it buttoned back up this evening and test it out. May try and make a run to bridgeport on July 4th weekend to test it out (going up that weekend either way with the trailer to pick up my dad's tools he wants to pass down).
Did you get it running yet?
Nope. I keep letting other stuff take precedence. Haven't had a wrenchathon in a while, so maybe soon.
Thought I was close, but now the injectors are not firing. Has fuel in the tank, the pump is good, any suggestions?
Relay for injectors?
Care to share details of the acquisition I saw behind the red flatbed headed north through Temple yesterday?
:flipoff2:
Damn, I thought the beast was about to emerge with those axles.
Hell noze! I in no way can afford that $7-10k upgrade!
New intake is in, going to try and run out tomorrow night and swap it out. Should have a new distributor in tomorrow, so maybe friday night or saturday I can get it in and fired up.
254-721-6334 if anyone wants to come watch an old fat ass do a little wrenchin!
One carb now?
Yes. Ill keep the other intake till I get my propane parts gathered up.
I have plenty tanks, thanks though.
Rain out, maybe tomorrow.
Got my pigtails in for the relays in from DelCity.net. I like how they interlock. Going to start over with them and build a new relay and fuse board. It won't be as profesional looking, but it will be wired up so that I can work on it if needed.
Tommy, if you want to do something different, these would work well for you I believe.

those things are great, and they sort of clip on to the side of the 5 position fuse block that del city sells.
No love for the cadi weatherpack relays??
no, wierd **** that you can't buy anywhere
